Is Christianity the One True Religion?

Well, is it?  In an article coincidently entitled, “Is Christianity the One True Religion?”, our blessed friends at CARM answer the question.

            www.carm.org/questions/onlytrue.htm

“Yes, Christianity is the one true religion. That may sound awfully dogmatic and narrow-minded…”

Hold on there, CARM...  Do not apologize for being dogmatic and narrow-minded.  No apology should be needed as the bible says we are justified through faith.

“…but the simple truth is that Christianity is the only true religion.”

I see, I spoke too soon.  I am glad you agree with me.

“Christians do not go around saying Christianity is the only way because they are arrogant, narrow-minded, stupid, and judgmental.”

Of course not!  We do it because we know everyone else is wrong.

So how is it that we know we are right?

“Jesus said that He was the only way. Jesus is unique. He was either telling the truth, He was crazy, or He was a liar. But since everyone agrees that Jesus was a good man, how then could He be both good and crazy, or good and a liar? He had to be telling the truth. He is the only way.”

Bingo!  Good men can never be wrong and none of the leaders of other religions are good.  That is right Mr. Dali Lama, we are talking to you.   God will see you in hell along with Gandhi.

“Buddha didn't rise from the dead, nor did Confucius or Zoroaster. Muhammad didn't fulfill detailed prophecy. Alexander the Great didn't raise the dead or heal the sick. And though there is far less reliable information written about them, they are believed in.”

Amen!  Rising from the dead is a prerequisite to speaking truth.  This is something so self evident that not even CARM sees a need to explain it.

“Stoner says that by using the modern science of probability in reference to eight prophecies, ‘we find that the chance that any man might have lived down to the present time and fulfilled all eight prophecies is 1 in 1017." That would be 1 in 100,000,000,000,000,000.”

Proof!  We have everyone nailed.  Do not think too much about the fact that both Jesus and the writers of the New Testament had access to the ancient prophesies beforehand.  It is a meaningless detail that obviously can not stand in the way of faith.

Unrelated Deep Thought:

Deuteronomy 27:23:

Cursed be he that lieth with his mother-in-law. And all the people shall say, Amen.

Uh oh.

Stay away from CARM, friend. Ask me or my pal AP_Complicate.

What evidence do you have of the validity behind prophetic fulfillment outside of the testimonies of followers, whose credibility is challenged by questionable authorship of the Bible?

Blessed is the ground that CARM walks upon.

Why? They are dishonest. They obfuscate facts. They misrepresent all other beliefe systems. Those in the forums simply will not argue on terms of intuitive reason.

"What evidence do you have of the validity behind prophetic fulfillment outside of the testimonies of followers, whose credibility is challenged by questionable authorship of the Bible?"

If you had read an earlier entry of mine, "Faith Fallacies," you would know that I am above falling for such arguments.  One cannot base  their religion on evidence, logic or knowledge.

"Why? They are dishonest. They obfuscate facts. They misrepresent all other beliefe systems. Those in the forums simply will not argue on terms of intuitive reason."

But all other belief systems are wrong, are they not?  Yes, the answer is yes.  As to dishonesty, I would have to say that they certainly do believe what they are saying, thus they are not lying.  And intuitive reason?  What in the world could that have to do with religion?  If you want to use reason, go find something that makes sense.

I read your 5 points. But you failed to address problems that appeal to Scripture itself. Did Moses write Genesis? Chapter 36 verse 31 seems to indicate otherwise. And if you could read Hebrew, as I doubt you can, you'd note Ecclesiastes uses Persian loanwords, Aramaisms and the structure of the Hebrew require a date after Israel's release from exile 539 BCE.

Basically your five points were: any challenge to the Bible is wrong because you say [read: want to think] it is. Simply put, you are only appealing to yourself for truth. So welcome the selfishness of Sola Scriptura with open arms, admitting you are only appealing to yourself is the next step into realizing you interpret the Bible however you please.

You have me all wrong.  I interpret the bible with faith.   How can faith possibly be wrong?

How can faith possibly be wrong?

Subject A (Protestant) interprets the Bible with faith. Subject (B) Catholic interprets the Bible with faith. Subjects A and B disagree with one another. Are they both right?

One cannot base  their religion on evidence, logic or knowledge.

In other words, there is absolutely no warrant in Christian belief. Why then should anyone be a Christian? And don't you dare say faith. Muslims have faith, and even Materialists have faith in some metaphysical principles.

As to dishonesty, I would have to say that they certainly do believe what they are saying, thus they are not lying.

It's not hard for one to deceive oneself. Just look at "St. Hilarious" on the forums. Apparently they are the magisterial theologians who speak for everyone, not just Calvinism!

"Why then should anyone be a Christian?"

Good question.   I would have to say that the only answer is faith.

And if you want to see the ultimate expression of faith, check here:

The link is dead, but judging by the "salvation through abortion" I'm guessing it's pretty sick.

Okay. I'm done. Why argue if you won't conform to the rules of deductive logic? There isn't anything surer to the natural human mind than intuitive reason, and if you think that someone has to abandon this entirely to embrace Christianity, this isn't worth my time.

I'll leave you with this as my argument: I think you are wrong. I must be right, since I know this by faith.

You are almost there, friend.

"I'm really sorry, but the link just doesn't work."

I am not sure why, I guess you could navigate there, it is on the third page of the blog.
